Despite the heavy downpour which heralded Monday morning in the federal capital city Abuja, officers and men of the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Department of State Service (DSS), Police and other paramilitary were seen in strategic locations to forestall the planned #RevolutionNow protest called for by detained Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 Presidential election, Mr Omoyele Sowore.

In Lagos, a fully armed detachment of the Nigerian Police cordoned off the National stadium in Surulere, venue of the protests.

Some of the protesters who the Police claimed were unruly were picked up and locked up in standing Black Maria vehicles by the Police.

There was  also panic among the protesters as the Police fired teargas canisters to disperse the gathering  crowd which was becoming agitated.

Sowore’s declaration of the protest has been declared as a treasonable offence by the DSS which arrested him early on Saturday, an action which has been roundly condemned by large portions of the populace.

Security operatives armed to the teeth have taken over the Central Business District (CBD) and other major potential flashpoints around the city.
