Action resumed across Europe after the international break and Nigerian players wasted little time getting stuck in the bump and grind of the game.

Here’s a recap of Saturday’s games involving Nigerian-born stars…

ENGLAND

Everton 2-0 West Ham: Alex Iwobi was on for 87 minutes before being substituted by Gyfil Sigurdsson as the Toffees made light work of the visiting Hammers.

Leicester 2-1 Burnley: Wilfred Ndidi played all 90 minutes and was outstanding in Leicester’s win as Jamie Vardy and Younis Tielemans scored to cancel out Chris Woods’ opener for the Clarets.

Kelechi Iheanacho, the other Super Eagle on the Foxes’ roster was not dressed for the game.

Tottenham 1-1 Watford: No Isaac Success or youngster Tom Dele-Bashiru for Watford in their draw at Tottenham but another Nigerian-born player Dele Ali scored just four minutes from time for Spurs to save a point for the homers.

Hull City 2-3 QPR: Dreadlocks-loving Eberechi Eze calmly converted two penalties to ease the Rs past a resilient Hull City. Scores stood at one-all after the first half before Eze scored twice in 10 minutes, his fifth and sixth of the season, to guarantee all three points before Josh Magennis pulled another goal back on 90 minutes to make the result more respectable.

Eze’s compatriot Bright Osayi-Samuel also played for 62 minutes before going off for Marc Pugh.

Boro 0-1 West Brom: Semi Ajayi was again in imperious form at the heart of West Brom’s defence, helping them to shut out Middlesboro 1-0 to remain top of the Championship log.

Ajayi has featured in all of the Baggies games this season with two goals to his name and also impressed for Nigeria against Brazil during the international break.

Stoke 2-0 Fulham: Stoke continued their resurgence with a second win on the bounce following a disastrous start to the season with Oghenekaro Etebo seeing full action in the 2-0 win over Fulham.

The Potters have now amassed eight points and risen from the basement to 19th in the table.

Blackburn 2-2 Huddersfield: Former Manchester City player Tosin Adarabioyo was on for all game as Rovers shipped two goals in their home game against Huddersfield.

SPAIN

Getafe 2-1 Leganes: Manuel Pellegrini’s team continued their indifferent start to the season with a 2-1 loss at Getafe. Kenneth Omeruo played the full game but bagged a yellow on 77 minutes but his compatriot Chiedozie Awaziem was an unsed substitute.

Granada 1-0 Osasuna: Surprise team Granada continued their fairy tale run with another victory and Ramon Azeez joining the fray on 59 minutes after coming on for Roberto Soldado.

FRANCE

Toulouse 2-1 Lille: Victor Osimhen went down with Lille at Toulouse with defender Jose Fonte getting their consolatory goal on 90th minute after the home team had gone two goals up.

Metz 1-0 Nantes: Moses Simon couldn’t do much to help Nantes avoid defeat at Metz as he was pulled off for AK Bamba after 66 minutes.

BELGIUM

Standard Liege 1-0 Genk: Paul Onuachu was a late substitute on 87th minute for Bryan Heynen while Stephen Odey was unused as Champions League campaigners Genk lost in the Belgian Jupiler to Liege.

Kotrijk 2-0 Zulte Waregem: Former Flying Eagles captain Abdul Ajagun came on four minutes from time but Kotrijk had already secured all three points with two goals scored in either half.

Mouscron 0-1 Club Brugge: Emmanuel Dennis who had his Super Eagles debut against Brazil last Sunday was on for 77 minutes before going off for Lois Openda but compatriot and clubmate David Okereke was unused.

Fellow Nigerian Cedric Omoigui played the last 20 minutes for Mouscron after coming on for Sami Allagui.

TURKEY

Trabzonspor 4-1 Gaziantep: No Mikel Obi or recently recuperated Ogenyi Onazi but Anthony Nwakaeme was on hand to provide an assist for the fourth goal as Trabzonspor recorded their heaviest win of the season.

Olanrewaju Kayode, on for Gaziantep from the start, was shown a straight red card on 84 minutes to make a bad day worse for the visitors.
