A groundswell of opinion, largely sympathetic, has grown in the immediate aftermath of the Police disruption of cross-dresser Bobrisky’s birthday bash by the Police in Lagos on Saturday.

Bobrisky’s attempted arrest trended on social media with a majority castigating the Police for focusing on a harmless cross-dresser at the expense of much more serious security challenges.

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, had planned a two-day 28th birthday bash which reportedly gulped about N20m naira according to the transvestite.

However, men of the Nigeria Police invaded the venue and arrested five people with the celebrant barely managing to escape.

Lagos Command PRO Bala Elkanah, speaking about the disruption of the event, said:

“It is true that we have sealed up the venue of the party based on some intelligence.

“Considering the pedigree of the celebrant, the event may likely cause a breach of public peace and it is expected that no immoral display should be allowed.

“To augment security at each of the venues, ACPOL Area ‘A’ Lion Building/SUPOL Victoria Island mobilised 50 men to provide security at Club DNA, No 76 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, opposite Eko Hotel and Suite, Victoria Island and Paradise Boat Club, plot 8, Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island.”
